Description:
The small stony beach of Playa de Tasarte is located at the bottom of the Barranco de Tasarte and is one of several remote beaches located along the rugged, mountainous and almost unpopulated south west coast of the island of Gran Canaria. The colourful rock formations which constitute the cliffs in the background are some of the oldest rocks to be found on the island of Gran Canaria. The lowest formations at sea level are 14.5 million year old basalts, whilst the sequence of layers above are of basaltic ignimbrite, Rhyolite lava and trachy-rhyolitic ignimbrites aged between 13.95 and 13.4 million years old.
