Description:
This is a typical view of the remote, rugged and almost unpopulated mountainous area of the extreme south west of Gran Canaria, an area where very little rain falls and where the oldest rock formations of the island are to be found. These mountains are largely composed of highly eroded Miocene Basaltic lavas that formed the original shield volcano and were emplaced between 14.5 and 14.1 million years ago. This image is of the mountains separating the Barranco (canyon) de Veneguera and the Barranco de Tasarte. The highest point the Roque Colorado (914 meters) is to the left of the ridge.
