Description: The False clown anemonefish is very similar to the Clown anemonefish (Amphiprion percula) this latter clownfish however may be identified by its more prominent black markings bordering the white stripes. The False clown anemonefish may be found from the Anderman and Nicobar islands, through Malaysia, Indonesia, north to Ryuk and south to Papua New Guinea. Amphiprion percula is however restricted in its range to Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and the Great Barrier reef.
In this image from the Anderman Sea, a pair of adults together with juvanile shelter within their host anemone Heteractis magnifica. This beautiful anemone is common throughout the Indo-Pacific, and may vary in colour from one area to another. In Sri Lanka they are often deep purple whilst off East Africa they may be scarlet with pure white tentacles.
