Description: Female Blacktail reef shark (Carcharinus wheeleri) Red Sea. The blacktail reef shark (Carcharinus wheeleri) is a medium sized reef shark of up to 180 cm in length. Its Geographical distribution is confined to the Indian Ocean, where it is broadly distributed from the Red Sea where it is very abundant, the Arabian Gulf, south to Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, South Africa, Madagascar, the Comoros, Seychelles and Aldabra and eastward to Thailand and Burma covering all the oceanic islands and atolls such as the Maldives and Chagos archipelagos. It is not known if it may be found in Indonesia and eastern Australia. |
