Description: Wreck of the Francisquita, Menorca, Balearic Islands. The Spanish cargo ship Francisquita, was built by the Astilleros de Tomas Ruiz de Velasco S.A in Bilbao, Spain, in 1944, the same shipbuilders that had built the Santa, also sunk off the coast of Menorca. On her last voyage she had departed Sevilla in southern Spain with a cargo of cork and 100 tonnes of sugar beet pulp. On the 16th of December 1952, after unloading the cork in Palamos, she departed for the port of Ciudadela, Menorca. The sea was very rough although the storm was now declining. Early the following day the Francisquita struck a submerged rock below the Punta Nati lighthouse and was to sink at 12.30 that day 1.5 km north of this lighthouse.
