Description:
The spectacular island of Tenerife, dominated by the 3718 m high Pico del Teide volcano, is the largest island of the Canary archipelago, covering some 2058 square kilometers and the highest in all the Atlantic Ocean. Mount Teide volcano is also the third largest oceanic island volcano on Earth, after Mauna Kea 4205 m and Mauna Loa 4169 m, on the Pacific island of Hawaii. It is a stratovolcano, its steep slopes composed of layer upon layer of different volcanic materials, emitted by different types of eruption from the same volcano over a period of over 150,000 years. This is an early morning view of the Mount Teide stratocone seen from the Bosque de La Esperanza, a thickly forested area of Tenerife, comprising almost entirely of Canary pines to the north east.
