Description:
A huge block of obsidian lays on the tan coloured phonolitic pumice emitted from the Montaña Blanca volcano which erupted at the foot of Mount Teide some 2088 years ago. Obsidian is a shiny black rock composed of pure volcanic glass, resulting from the extremely rapid cooling of magma. This block was probably ejected from Mount Teide during a later explosive eruption.
