Description:
The Barranco de La Mina is the largest canyon to be found on the north side of Gran Canaria, running all the way from the centre of the island to the coastline near Las Palmas. In contrast to the dry and arid south, the north of the island is very green with a huge variety of vegetation and is a very rich agricultural area. This is owing to the prevailing NE trade winds, which bring abundant moisture and cloud cover from the sea, often shrouding the mountains in mist and producing frequent precipitation in the form of drizzle or light rain on the north facing slopes. This image is of the lower part of this canyon
