Description:
View of the very rugged and inaccessible canyon area of the upper course of the Barranco de Agaete. The various lava flows to the left are from bottom to top; Early Roque Nublo lavas (4.5 –3.9 ma) of basaltic, basanitic and tephritic composition overlain by later Roque Nublo breccia sheets (3.9 – 3.5 million years old) and overlain by epiclastic deposits and at the very top post Roque Nublo volcanism, rift lavas composed of nephelinites of less than 3 million years. To the Right are Miocene trachy-rhyolitic ignimbrites and lava flows formed within the Caldera de Tejeda, between 13.95 and 13.3 million years ago, which overlie Miocene shield basalts.
