Description:
The Los Gigantes cliffs are amongst some of the tallest and most spectacular of the Canary Islands and form the westernmost part of the Teno mountains rising above Santiago del Teide in the northwest of the island. The Teno mountains or Macizo in Spanish, are an ancient and now largely eroded volcanic edifice, the remains of a shield volcano that was to build up between 6.4 and 5.1 million years ago, which later together with the central Adeje and the Anaga shield volcanoes were to form the basis of today’s island of Tenerife. These cliffs are mostly composed of basaltic rocks.
